SIBU: SMK Chung Hua wins two of five competitions held in conjunction with the Science and Technology Education Carnival Sibu Division 2015.

The school was champion in the solar car competition and the solar boat competition.

SMK Chung Hua, the host, was among 16 secondary schools here taking part in the two-day carnival, which began on May 6.

SMK Sacred Heart came second in the solar car competition while the third and fourth places went to SMK Methodist and SMK Kampung Nangka respectively.

In the solar boat competition, SMK Sungai Merah came in second, SMK Sacred Heart (third) and SMK Tung Hua (fourth).

SMK Chung Hua also won the best parachute for the aerospace competition while SMK Bukit Assek grabbed the best trajectory title. The champion was SMK Bukit Assek, followed by SMK Sungai Merah in second.

SMK Lanang and SMK Kampung Nangka had to contend with the third and fourth placing respectively.

In the young scientist competition, SMK Sacred Heart emerged top, SMK Chung Hua (second), SMK Methodist (third) and SMK Rosli Dhoby (fourth).

The EECC competition saw SMK Kampung Nangka emerging the champion with SMK Chung Hua taking the second spot.
The third and fourth spots went to SMK Rosli Dhoby and SMK Methodist respectively.

Speaking when officiating at the closing ceremony yesterday, principal Tham Yoh Yin said the carnival was meant to create greater awareness among students, teachers and the community on the importance of using efficient energy.

“Students are also exposed to creative problem-solving skills through the carnival,” said Tham, who is also the carnival organising chairperson.
